I'VE MOVED

Come and join me at my new home. I'm still settling in, so excuse the mess... but head over to www.lucyolive.co.nz and check it out!

See you there kids.

SUMMER FRUIT

I think you'd agree that one of the best things about summer is the amazing fruit that come into season. Delicious, sweet and juicy – yes please! I've done a fair share of packaging for delicious fresh produce were I work (Tenfold Creative). It's funny when you go to the supermarket and see your own designs – sometimes side by side, like these!

I guess that's one of the neat things about being a designer – you get to see your work out there, interacting with the rest of the world.

PINK GLASSES

How much fun is this bottle design for a rose wine? Giving a whole new spin to the phrase "seeing the world through rose coloured glasses," just having this bottle on the table would get the party started. I love the simple design that Luksemburk created for this packaging, and the way they let the colour of the product do a lot of the talking.

A LITTLE BIRTHDAY GIFT

I have two sisters – one of which seems to have contracted all the girly genes that should have been shared between us three. When it came to her birthday card, I knew I had to design something just like her: pink, fun,  feminine and a bit on the stinky side. Ok, so it's hard to get 'stink' into a design, so I didn't include that in this time (I kid, I kid! Last time I checked Tessa smelt pretty average).

INVITATION :: COME CLOSER CLUB

I don't know what the Come Closer Club is. Heck, I don't even know what the Come Closer Club does (except for perhaps getting closer...?). But I sure would love an invitation, and I'm pretty sure you can see why. Foils? Badges? Boxes full of cute stuff? All branded consistently and beautifully? Yes please.

FRUITY LITTLE PACKAGES

After creating an initial feijoa fruit label, I was asked to create some more for other fruit, ensuring that the design was "the same, but different." Here's a little peek into the final set I completed at work (Tenfold Creative). I love getting these little label jobs as I usually have a pretty free reign over what kind of design to do... though it can be tricky; I usually only have a 5cm area to work with! Keep an eye out for these sweeties at Countdown supermarkets.

A BOTTLE OF MISCHIEF

Wine, beer, and other alcohol packaging are often nesting grounds for creative activity. When all you've got is a picture on a bottle to distinguish yourself on shelf, you've got to make an effort. I especially love these bottles which have been designed and illustrated by Caleb Heisey. As soon as I saw them, I was hooked. Each bottle tells a story, and each story is a pleasure to observe.

PACKAGING :: THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

Too often we see the packaging for movie soundtracks as shadows of the existing movie poster it came from; squished and contorted to fit the CD cover dimensions and deemed nothing more than a mere after thought. Not so for this beautiful CD set for the soundtrack of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Designed by Rob Sheridan, this amazing work was a unique opportunity to create something 'anti-commercial' – there's no title on the cover, no logos, no unnecessary copy, and no cheesy actor photos... just pure, stunning design.

JUST IN CASE

The friends and clients of MENOSUNOCEROUNO have better chance of surviving any end-of-the-world scenarios thanks to this cute gift. Aptly titled JUST IN CASE, the kit has some handy bits and bobs for the end of time, which is of course rumored to occur this year (2012)... though I think this may be less of a 'survival' kit and more of a 'make the most if it' kit.

THE FOX WITH THE GOLDEN FUR

This is one of the most amazing things I've seen in a long time. This chocolate packaging tells the story of "The Fox with the Golden Fur" using colourful, illustrated chocolate wrappers that reveal a paper-cut shadowbox. This interactive beauty has really captured the charm of old storybooks. I love it, and if I had it, I wouldn't eat it in a million years. Okay, maybe if I was really starving, like if I hadn't eaten in weeks. But I would be sure to restuff the packaging so no one would notice.
