TYPOGRAPHIC TEA TOWEL

Finding the perfect gift isn't always easy. But imagine being a business wanting to send something out that will appeal to hundreds of people – it gets pretty tricky. This year my workplace (Tenfold Creative) tackled the Christmas debacle with a bit of kiwi flair. It was a fun little typographic project that everyone took part in! I crafted the words 'mint' and 'whanau' (Maori for 'family') for it.

The gift arrived on the recipient's desk folded as a shirt, displaying the words 'it's time to loosen the tie... another sweet as summer is about to unfold'. The shirt then opened out to become a tea towel – one that celebrates everything New Zealand in the summer season. Ka pai! (Awesome!)

INVITATION :: IN THE WOODS

Every wedding has their own tone, their own look, their own way about them. Invitations are a great way of setting the tone and giving a glimpse of what's to come on the big day. This lovely invitation is for a wedding ceremony held under trees – pretty suiting don't you think?

These beauties were designed by Chase Kettl of San Diego for her own wedding. The design was created in Adobe Illustrator and then laser cut into thin planks. She then simply printed her design on the accompanying mustard stock, threaded it through, and voila! Definitely the kind of invitation you'd hold on to forever. But I think my favourite part was the envelope seal...

Aww, love it, almost too special to open! As always, with seeing such special invitations as these, I always get highly curious as to what the actual wedding day entailed. After a slight amount of stalking, I found out! Check out their cute wedding video here.

LAURA MESEGUER :: JUST MY TYPE

I've always been in awe of those designers that have a natural knack for typography. As I was perusing one of my colleague's design books today, I stumbled across the magnificently tailored work of one Laura Meseguer – freelance graphic and type designer residing in Barecelona. From her studio she does every kind of project based on typography; from lettering and logotypes to custom typefaces. How much do I adore the Rumba typeface she created?

FRUITY LITTLE PACKAGES

After creating an initial feijoa fruit label, I was asked to create some more for other fruit, ensuring that the design was "the same, but different." Here's a little peek into the final set I completed at work (Tenfold Creative). I love getting these little label jobs as I usually have a pretty free reign over what kind of design to do... though it can be tricky; I usually only have a 5cm area to work with! Keep an eye out for these sweeties at Countdown supermarkets.

HAND-LETTERING HARMONY

You know when you see something and, somehow, it just resonates with you? It could be a movie, a piece of clothing, a shop front; anything. This heavenly cover for OC Weekly has got my name written all over it. Well, technically it doesn't, but what it does have written all over it is some of the sweetest type combos ever. I love the colours, the photo, the type treatments... everything. So harmonious. I adore this!

CHALKING POINT

I don't believe there are many people in the world that make a living as a 'full time chalk letterer'. But that's exactly what the very talented Dana Tanamachi does – and good thing, too. Her work is absolutely stunning. So stunning, in fact, that the likes of Google, Adidas, and O Magazine have all had to have a piece.
